Original exhibition masthead designed by FARM

Designed as an accompaniment to the exhibition DISLOCATIONS: Memory & Meaning of the Fall of Singapore, 1942, curated by the National Museum of Singapore, this publication reflects on the fractured, often elusive nature of memory during a time of deep national upheaval.

The exhibition, which explored the emotional and historical landscape leading up to the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, presented a series of narrative fragments—each offering a perspective of daily life in the face of war. Our role was to extend this curatorial vision into a printed form.

The cover design features a downward, visually dissonant composition derived from the block-like fragments of the exhibition masthead. This treatment extends and reinterprets the original visual language to underscore the exhibition’s thematic focus on disjunction and narrative fragmentation—an outcome shaped by our considered intention to reflect the fractured nature of memory and history.
